STANDING COMMITTEES


 

 

ASSOCIATED DOG CLUBS OF NEW YORK & AMERICAN DOG OWNERS ASSOCIATION

 

The Chair shall represent the O.K.A. at as many A.D.C.N.Y.S and A.D.O.A. meetings as possible. The Chair shall report all matters relevant to the Board and members of the Association, and shall involve O.K.A. membership in major discussions whenever possible so that O.K.A. majority wishes can be represented at A.D.C.N.Y.S meetings.

 

AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB DELEGATE

 

The Chair shall represent the Onondaga Kennel Association at A.K.C. quarterly meetings. It shall be the duty of the A.K.C. delegate to disseminate information to the membership. The membership shall be informed of all votable issues and the delegate shall vote according to the wishes of the Association.

 

AWARDS AND HISTORIAN

 

The Chair shall be the keeper of all publicity and all awards, and shall annually coordinate the presentation of certificates and awards for American and Canadian Kennel Clubs championship and performance titles accrued by an O.K.A. member within a one (1) year period.

 

EDUCATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

 

The Chair shall be responsible for providing opportunities for public education of the purebred dog fancy. Such programs should be available, upon request, to any public or private group or institution. In demonstrations, the process should involve both conformation and performance when possible.

 

ENTERTAINMENT

 

The Chair will, upon Board approval, organize social gatherings for the O.K.A. membership which may include a Christmas Party, Spring Social or Summer Picnic. Chair shall obtain suitable location and shall provide members with adequate advance notice of location, fee and time limits for reservations. He/she shall collect fees and transmit them to O.K.A. treasurer.

 

ETHICS

 

The Chair shall form a committee, subject to Board approval, that will uphold the Code of Ethics of the Association. This committee will annually select one-third (1/3) of the membership for kennel inspections and will conduct kennel inspections on all prospective members, reporting all findings to the Board. Any complaints, filed in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws shall be investigated by this committee with all reports and findings reviewed by the Board.

 

HANDLING

 

The Chair shall be responsible for selecting a location accessible and suitable for the Association members to work their dogs. Chair shall establish dates for sessions, organize classes, collect fees and transmit them to O.K.A. treasurer. 

 

 

JUDGES’S INPUT COMMITTEE

 

Chair will select one (1) person to serve as coordinator from each of the seven (7) breed groups and the obedience interest group. Each group coordinator will canvass all members having breeds within his group and compile a list of the names of judges, ranking them in the order of preference. Chair will collect completed lists from each coordinator and provide copies to Show Chairman,

Corresponding Secretary, and maintain a copy for his/her records. The show chairman will make every effort to utilize names from these lists with the understanding that for any particular show such factors as availability, cost and judge sharing during a cluster show, may necessitate the selection of judges not listed.

 

JUNIOR O.K.A.

 

The Chair shall lead a youth group dedicated to the purebred dog fancy. The chair will locate a meeting place that will accommodate the needs of the group, schedule meeting times, and monitor activities of the group.

 

MATCH SHOW

 

The Chair shall be responsible for the organization of the annual O.K.A. Match Show, subject to Board approval. The chair’s responsibility shall include dates, location, hiring judges, trophies, ribbons and all things pertinent to a Match Show.

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

The Chair shall be responsible for keeping all records on prospective new members including number of meetings attended and sponsors. Upon fulfillment of all membership requirements, the chair shall prepare ballots for all eligible members. Each applicant shall be informed by the chair that they will not be placed on the telephone referral list for one (1) full year after acceptance.

 

NEWSLETTER

 

The Chair shall publish, monthly a notice of all general membership and Board meetings. This notice could include information on the programs, parties, brags, dog events, educational matter, etc. All dues paying and life-time members shall receive a copy of the newsletter.

 

POINT SHOW CHAIRMAN

 

Each year the Board shall appoint a Point Show Chairman and assistant for each show to be held. The Show Chair will be in direct charge and responsible for all phases of the Association’s sanctioned dog show, obedience trial and associated events.

 

PROGRAM

 

The Chair shall arrange frequent programs for O.K.A. general meetings. These programs should be educational and pertinent to the purebred dog fancy. 

 

 

SUNSHINE

 

The Chair shall send cards, flowers, etc. to any O.K.A. member or member’s immediate family in the event of illness or death. In accordance with established Board guidelines.

 

TELEPHONE BREED INFORMATION

 

The Chair establishes a phone line accessible to the public for information regarding purebred dogs. The operator will annually receive an updated referral list noting all eligible members for this service. At no time may an individual, not a current member be referred, and no business may be referred. All members with the same breed must be referred with each inquiry.

 

LEGISLATIVE LIAISON

 

The Chair member who follow legislative issues and provide an important communications link between the OKA and the AKC Canine legislative department.
